Look at each item below and write in estimated costs. Remember that a year at college is an eight-month period.
Please note: When entering numbers into the data fields only use numbers and applicable decimal points. Entering commas, dollar signs, or any other non-numeric characters will cause an error.
The annual amount charged by the college, including tuition plus applicable fees (i.e. student government, general service, graduation and activity fees, etc.). The approximate standard tuition (domestic) and fees for a first year student at St. Clair College equals about $2,500.
This will vary between programs. An estimate of $300 to $800 per year is reasonable. Check course description for special items or required equipment.
Multiply monthly rental fees (plus utilities, if applicable) for off-campus accommodations by the duration of program (i.e. eight months). St. Clair College residence costs about $5,525 for both fall and winter semesters (Sept. - Apr) (the equivalent of a $691/month apartment, including utilities). If not included in the rent, the cost of electricity, water and heating fuel can turn an inexpensive apartment into a costly one.
Multiply the cost of monthly cell phone rates or a basic telephone line, including estimated long-distance charges, by the duration of program (i.e. eight months).
St. Clair College does not offer meal plans, however a kitchenette is available for storing and preparing food. On average, a student spends approximately $60 per week on groceries (not including eating out), whether they live on or off campus. Multiply weekly amount by duration of program (eight months is about 35 weeks).
How much will your student need for 35 weeks of laundry, two to four haircuts, hygiene items, newspapers, gifts, hobbies, clothing and entertainment? Be realistic and consider all costs specific to your son or daughter.
If your student has a car, add up the bill for eight months of gas, insurance and maintenance. Student parking rates at St. Clair College are $102.50 per semester/$205 per year for general parking. Bus and/or taxi fees should be considered for students in off-campus accommodations, without a car. A monthly Transit Windsor student bus pass is $66.00. Transportation expenses for home visits should also be calculated. Multiply frequency of visits by bus/train ticket rates, or the cost of gas for drivers.
